Tmall forms market research alliance

Tmall Innovation Center (TMIC), Tmall’s dedicated research and development arm owned by Alibaba, has formed an alliance with some of the world’s leading market research consultancies to beef up in-house innovation and product development of the brands.

TMIC has tied up with 10 market research firms, including Nielsen, Ipsos, Kantar TNS, GFK, Euromonitor International and AdMaster.

The new alliance aims at shortening the time and costs for new products incubation and driving richer consumer insights through opening up specialized analytics and research methodologies among the companies, said TMIC in a statement.

So far, 81 companies have partnered with TMIC on new product innovations, including Procter & Gamble, Unilever, Estee Lauder, Shiseido, Mars, Mattel, Johnson & Johnson, L’Oreal and Samsung. Partnering brands have already debuted about 300 incubated products to date.
