Data Localisation: Indian government not keen on extending deadline

The Indian government and the apex bank of the country (RBI) are not in favour of extending the Monday's deadline for local data storage by foreign payment companies, according to reports.

The move comes even as Two US Senators have called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to soften India’s stance on data localisation.

RBI, in April, gave six months to global payment companies to store transaction data of Indian customers within India. The deadline ends Monday.
