Kuaishou is still banned on WeChat Moments, says Tencent

Tencent public relations director Zhang Jun has denied local media report on the ban lifting of Kuaishou video’s sharing to WeChat Moments, confirming the continuous ban of sharing short videos from Kuaishou as well as Xigua Video in WeChat Moments.

Zhang said developers used mini-programs to let users share those videos in WeChat, which led some to mistakenly believe that the ban was removed. Similar sharing through mini program works as well for Bytedance’s Xigua Video.

Zhang’s response is also eliminating popular speculations that the ban is part of Tencent’s strategy to compete with Bytedance-backed short video apps Douyin, Huoshan, and Xigua Video through an ostensible check of vulgar and inappropriate content on its platform.
