BookMyShow parent clocks 30% jump in revenue, loss widens

Big Tree Entertainment, which owns and operates online entertainment ticketing platform BookMyShow, posted a 30% increase in operational revenue from Rs 300.9 crore the year before to Rs 391 crore in fiscal 2018.

The file data from business research platform Tofler shows its strong growth in non-movie operations making up for a slowdown in its bread-and-butter business. Standalone operational revenue, which covers its India business, accounted for about Rs 386 crore of the total, compared with Rs 299.5 crore in FY17.

Net loss widened to Rs 162 crore from Rs 139 crore the year before. The company, which has been profitable for most part in the past, posted a Rs 1 crore loss in fiscal 2016, which ballooned in FY17 as a result of the spending on non-movie business and heightened competition in the movie ticketing space.
