TikTok, Chinese internet technology giant Bytedance’s short-video app, has surpassed Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Snapchat in monthly installs for the first time in September in the US, according to data from app intelligence firm Sensor Tower.
It surpassed the four other apps in terms of daily downloads on September 29, with 29.7 per cent the downloads from this cohort of apps, the firm says. It has since continued to increase its market share, soaring to reach 42% of downloads among the apps on October 30.
The app has seen its installs increase by 237% year-on-year. However, its engagement time still lags behind its competitors.
